Microwave Chemical Co., Ltd. (“MWCC”) and Nisshinbo Micro Devices Inc. (“Nisshinbo Micro Devices”) have entered into a strategic partnership for the design and manufacture of high-power magnetrons, the core component of microwave oscillators.

In recent years, securing a stable supply of critical minerals has become a global challenge from the perspective of economic security. In mining-related processes, strengthening supply chains through innovative technologies is an urgent priority. At the same time, expectations are rising for the further application of microwave technology in cutting-edge fields, including the defense industry.

To broadly implement microwave technology across these industrial fields, high-power magnetrons are indispensable. At the same time, there is demand for high conversion efficiency from electricity to microwaves—which directly reduces running costs—as well as for lower equipment costs.

As customer needs expand, MWCC has been working to apply microwave technology to large-scale processes such as mining, steelmaking, and petrochemicals. Anticipating the phase in which the implementation of these applications moves into full swing, MWCC has independently advanced the prototype development of high-power magnetrons.

Nisshinbo Micro Devices holds one of the world’s largest shares in magnetrons for marine radar and has, over many years, built a solid track record and advanced technological capabilities in the manufacture of microwave application products. Currently, it is leveraging this manufacturing expertise to explore expansion into new business domains.

Through this partnership, the two companies will combine Nisshinbo Micro Devices’ manufacturing technology with MWCC’s design capabilities, aiming to achieve higher magnetron output, high conversion efficiency, and a significant reduction in manufacturing costs.

Going forward, the two companies will work to achieve the early commercialization of high-power magnetrons and to contribute to industrial development through microwave-driven process innovation.
