Taiyo Kagaku and Microwave Chemical Establish Joint Venture Company for Sucrose Ester Production
Strategic Alliance Toward Southeast Asia Market Entry
Taiyo Kagaku Co., Ltd. (hereinafter, TKC) (Headquarters: Yokkaichi, Mie Prefecture, President: Nagahiro Yamazaki) and Osaka University Start-Up Microwave Chemical Co., Ltd. (hereinafter, MWCC) (Headquarters: Suita, Osaka Prefecture, President: Iwao Yoshino), have established the joint venture company TMT Co., Ltd. for the manufacture of food additives (headquarters: Yokkaichi, Mie Prefecture, President: Iwao Yoshino).
Construction of a plant for the manufacture of surfactants, primarily sucrose esters *1, will commence in December 2015 in Yokkaichi, Mie Prefecture. Commercial operations will start during 2016, and annual production capacity is scheduled to be approximately 1000 tons.
In order to quickly enter the rapidly growing Southeast Asia market for chemical products and food additives, TKC is focusing on introducing microwaves which already has a proven track record of introducing in the field of food processing.
MWCC developed the technology for the microwave emulsion method, which will be newly introduced this time.
With this technology, for which technical barriers to entry in the sucrose esters market were previously too high, it is now possible to manufacture products with higher quality and purity than before, and reduce reaction energy consumption by 50%.
TKC aims to expand beverage-related products by strengthening the production system for sucrose esters.
For MWCC, which aims to make microwave technology processes widespread through open innovation with chemical manufacturers, this will be the first time that they introduce their technology into a mass-production factory through a joint venture with a major company.
The market for sucrose esters is growing, particularly overseas. In addition, products manufactured in the factory will be halal.
Going forward, it is planned to expand the production of food emulsifiers to Southeast Asia in the next few years.
